‘Civilization’s traps’

Closed doors

Front doors

Eyes close

Eyes closed

Careful watch

Watch to catch

You doing something wrong

.

Hands reach

Hands of witch

And tongues of one too

Tongues always due

To see you do

Change the hue

.

Nails sharp

Nails that carp

Just like lips

Making you get to grips

With remorse

Which only makes things worse

.

Ears that listen

In the light they glisten

The foes that gossip

Wait for you to take a sip

From the cup which pleasures promise

But no friends enlist

  25. This sent chills up my spine!
    Very chilling, but beautiful work!

  26. Civilization traps you in the dillusion of progress đŸ™‚

  27. The second stanza is my favorite…keep up the good work.

  28. A poem that drew me in instantly, and kept me there, right to the last line, with curiosity to look a little closer. I puzzled over that last line a while, “No friends enlist.” I think I may get it now– that the friends won’t play this game against a person, which seems to me to offer hope that one is not without allies in this field of “Civilization’s Traps”.

The images your poem almost seems to pause on, like a lingering camera shot in a movie, work really well for me, especially the tongues that reach and the glistening ears.

A very fitting poem for your 100th post. Congratulations on that milestone!

    • Thank you! I’m really glad you’ve taken the time to analyze my poem so insightfully. As it comes to the last line, it’s supposed to match the previous. I’ve meant that very often we are offered moment pleasures, and we trap ourselves in them just to find ourselves lonely and unhappy when it’s already too late… But as I always say – any interpretation is correct đŸ˜‰

  29. Congrats on the 100th post and very cool write

  41. Congrats on your 100th post … quite a feat! Enjoyable penned post as well!

  42. Congratulations on the milestone đŸ™‚ Well deserved. I love how your first four or six lines are quite similar, but a word or a tense changes the effect so much! Nicely written!

    Congratulations on your 100th post.
I really enjoyed the rhythm of this piece. It flows quite quickly off the tounge. The images you’ve chosen create a sharp and concise reflection of ‘civiliziation’. I enjoyed reading this and the pause for thought it provoked.

  46. Congratulation for 100th post.

  47. Good stuff! And woo-hoo on the 100th post. Did you drink all that champagne? đŸ˜‰
